Colourpop Shayla Collaboration

Colourpop: Shayla x Colourpop Full Collection Review and Swatches

Colourpop, the US makeup brand that’s known for creating amazing products at even more amazing prices is a brand that knows the power of a great influencer collaboration. One of the more recent collabs, and one that made me sit up and take notice was the Colourpop x Shayla collection. This collaboration partnered with YouTube powerhouse Makeup Shayla. Known for her honest opinions, her championing of diversity in the beauty community and her impeccable makeup skills, this was the collab that made me place my all important order to the States. And I actually saved money by ordering the whole collection – getting free shipping as a reward (see how I convinced myself?).

This collection is made up of the Perception eyeshadow palette, three Lux Lipsticks, a lipgloss topper and two loose highlighters. They’re all beautifully packaged with splashes of gold and deep purple on a black base, giving the over all collection a very luxe, sumptuous feel.

Let’s get into it!

The Colourpop x Shayla Perception Palette

Colourpop Perception Palette swatches

Spoiler Alert! This is the hit of the collection for me. The Perception palette features 16 eyeshadows with a mix of mattes and shimmers, neutrals and pops of colour.

On the top row we have Unbothered, TF, Titus, Stallion.

On the second row is Spill the Tea,Dia, I.E., 14.

Third row features Strut’n Slay, Culture, Sassy, September.

On the bottom row we have Revenge, Thic, Played Out and Shade.

They all swatched well as you can see below, with only Sleuth being very slightly patchy for me. The consistency of the shadows is very high quality and creamy in texture. They are super pigmented and I’ve been really impressed with application and wear time on these.

The other great thing about this palette is its versatility. You can do an easy neutral eye or you can take it to 100% kapow in a heartbeat. For me, my go to look is Culture in the crease, deepened with Revenge, then Played Out in the outer corners and smoked out on the bottom lashes. On the lid I like Strut’n Slay or Diva with a bit (be light handed) of Unbothered on the brow bone highlight and inner corners. One thing to note is that your neutral look here will pull to warm tones as you can see. This works on my medium to medium deep skintone as I need a bit of warmth to stop shadows pulling too cool and appearing ashy or muddy.

The palette itself is gorgeous with gold metallic print and strong purple tones. It features a huge mirror so this is one of those palettes that is great to take with you on holiday.

Colourpop x Shayla Lipsticks in Quickie, Oouuu and C’mon Sis / Gloss Topper in Neat Freak

This was my first time trying the new Colourpop formula of lux lipsticks and let’s just say, I was impressed! How creamy are these?! They are just gorgeous to apply and to wear.

Quickie

Although this lipstick looked like it would suit me in the tube and in my swatch on my arm, on my actual lips it was super nude, almost concealer-lips-like. Don’t get me wrong sometimes I like that, but in order to wear this I need to use a darker lipliner. I know that in summer when my skintone is a little deeper, I’ll rock this with a grungy smokey eye. The other way I like to wear Quickie is mixed with the Oouuu lipstick below.

Oouuu

Oouuu is a vibrant orange lipstick that on my current winter skintone is quite striking. While I’m a bit more fair in these cold climes it’s a bit strong for me to wear on it’s own, unless it’s in a full statement look. I like to mix it with Quickie for a more pared back look right now, but I know come summer I’ll be pulling this one out!

C’mon Sis

Now this lipstick is one that I loooove and can wear all year round. It’s that perfect deeper mauve colour that really suits my colouring. It’s kind of like Kat von D Lolita but in a tube and with a little more life in it! It’s already a staple in my handbag.

Neat Freak

While I like the idea of lip toppers, the reality is that this gorgeous little tube is going to get dirty quickly because when you top a lipstick with it, some goes back in the tube. I find that I prefer a topper to be in a squeezy tube like the Mac clear Lipglass comes in. Having said that, this is really cute and adds some lovely dimension to these lipsticks.

Colourpop x Shayla Highlighters in Boomin and Pose

Colour pop Shayla highlighters and swatches

I haven’t always been the biggest fan of loose powder highlighters, they’re a bit messy and I’m a klutz so it’s a bad combo. I’m glad I put that to the side and went ahead to purchase these because they are sooooo good. Just epic highlighters actually.

Boomin, the colour seen swatched at the top is the perfect gold highlight on me. It suits my medium to medium deep skintone perfectly. And girrrrl it is pigmented!!! People will see you from space when you wear this!

Pose is a little too deep for me to wear as a highlighter right now, but I can use it as a bronzer topper just to add a bit of dimension and also it’s lovely to lightly dust on your shoulders – very lightly though!

The Verdict

This collection is worth it! It’s still available on the Colourpop website – just the highlighters are sold out at the moment. If you’re thinking of getting anything, I would suggest the Perception Palette. It’s THAT good and you’ll find that you reach for it often. By the way, Shayla and Colourpop have released some new liquid lipsticks to this collection – I have my eye on the red one – eek.

I’ve included a couple of looks below, the first showing me using most of the products from this current collection and the second look shows a very neutral eye – just to show the breadth of the eyeshadow palette. One thing I haven’t shown is a full-on dramatic eye. Let me know if you’d like to see that either in the comments below or come and see me on instagram @kazza7.

Have a great day my lovelies x
