If you’ve been anywhere on social media lately you’ll know that the Morphe brand has been killing it with their product releases. Known for their brushes and their iconic 35 palettes, Morphe raised the bar with their new formulations and packaging. New eye shadows were heralded by the Jaclyn Hill 35 palette and then all following palettes use the new buttery formula. Now they’ve done it again with this amazing collaboration with YouTuber Bretman Rock – releasing the Babe in Paradise highlighter palette – launching Morphe’s new highlighter formulation.
Bretman Rock, YouTube makeup guru, is from the Philippines and raised in Hawaii. These two cultures have been major influences in his life. In this product you can see him paying homage to both as well as injecting some of his trademark sassy sense of humour.
As you can see the packaging is simply beautiful – the box warranted a pic all of its own. It’s gold with embossing, foil, metallics, beautiful illustrations and more. I love it! I’m not throwing this box out … everrrr! The palette itself is made of carboard and has no mirror. Instead we have a lovely message from Bretman Rock himself. It’s so nice to have this little personal touch! The palette comes with a Morphe fan brush as well.
The palette offers six highlight colours that suit every skintone from the palest of the pale to the deepest of the deep. It’s super positive that Morphe and Bretman covered all skintones here. For me, there are three colours that I can use straight out as a highlighter on my face. The other three I have to either mix or use in other ways. I don’t mind this at all because I always approach my makeup with a multi-purpose mind. Who makes the rules? I make my own rules lol.
The formulation is just beautiful. It’s so smooth and creamy – almost buttery. They pick up on the brush easily and apply to the face like a dream. I can honestly say that the application of these powders is unlike most of the highlighters I have used. It goes on first swipe and you’re glowing to the gods! The colours are not chalky at all. I love them!
Keep reading to see how these swatch on my medium skintone.
Swatched below you have:
The lightest shade. It looks white, but when swatched on my skin it has a pinkish tint to it.
A champagne gold – gorgeous on its own or as a browbone highlight.
This is my favorite colour – it’s straight up gold and works beautifully on my skintone.
Another gorgeous gold. This one is slightly less in your face (than Mahu) and so wearable.
A pink toned highlight that works more like a blush topper on me.
This is a deeper highlight – too dark for me to use on its own, but I can definitely mix it with the others, or I can use as a lovely eye shadow shade, or even as a shimmer bronzer (with a very light hand). I’m tempted to mix this into some coconut oil and rub on my legs to try and get that Rihanna glow!
The Morphe x Bretman Highlighter Palette is a winner. It does not disappoint and it truly lovely. If you’re my skintone or deeper, then you need this in your life.
I bought mine from Beauty Bay because of the free delivery to New Zealand, but you can also buy direct from the Morphe website here. This palette is limited edition, and like I said it’s made the way for the new single highlighters to come out. They’ve now been released, so don’t delay in getting the Morphe Bretman Rock palette while you still can!
Let me know if you’ve tried this palette 🙂
