Review: Benefit Cosmetics Cheekathon Palette

Each year, cosmetic companies launch holiday or limited edition packs. Sometimes they’re a little ‘meh’ and sometimes they are flat out amazing.

Benefit always delivers in this area. Their Christmas packs are fantastic and through the year they launch certain limited edition items too. Earlier this year they launch the ‘Cheekathon’ palette. It retailed here in New Zealand for $100 (or more if you’re like me and left it too long until the only one left in the country was in Dunedin and had to be couriered up to Auckland). Even then it was a bargain!

The pack features five full sized products and a brush. Here in New Zealand, one full sized Hoola alone is $53 so that’s why you can see this palette was worth it.

I know its now unavailable, but thought I would show you the colours of the product on my skin and then when they launch their next amazing palette – because you know they will – you can jump on it!!

As I said, the palette features five products:

  • Dandelion blush
  • Hoola bronzer
  • Rockateur blush
  • Dallas blush
  • Coralista blush

Dandelion is a beautiful true pink. On the cooler size it still works on my skintone. It is a matte blush that is smooth and easy to apply.

Hoola bronzer is a cool toned brown. When I’m in full summer tan mode (around an NC42) this is too light for me. In my winter colour (NC35-37) this is a lovely subtle contour colour on me. Because it’s a little cooler toned and my skintone is very warm toned, I can only use this as a contour and not as a bronzer.

Rockateur blush is amazing. It’s a gorgeous rose gold colour. Because it’s baked it has a slight shimmer to it that adds so much life to a dull complexion. I like it a lot on my skin tone no matter what season it is. It’s a winner and definitely should be in your makeup collection.

Dallas blush is deep rosy brown colour. It’s one of those blushes that is great if you’re in a rush and don’t have time to bronze, contour, blush and highlight. Just pop this on! On me I use it as a bronzing blush (if that makes sense), because of the depth of colour it adds. It has good pigmentation too and very smooth to apply.

Coralista blush is a coral colour with a very slight shimmer. It’s just a bit too light on my skintone and doesn’t really show up on me. However, on a lighter skintone this would be lovely.

benefit-cheekathon-swatch-daylightThere you have it. If you’re interested in trying some Benefit products, I highly recommend waiting until one of their packs come out. Or if you’re interested in purchasing one of their products and your skintone is similar to mine, I hope I’ve helped out 🙂

Benefit is sold at Smith & Caughey in Auckland and at the Airport. In the South Island you can buy at Ballentynes.
