Review: LAGirl Pro BB Cream & Za Cosmetics 2-way Foundation

I love the idea of a BB cream, but any BB cream that I use on this face needs to have a bit more coverage than someone with perfect skin. I usually wear a pretty full coverage foundation – Estee Lauder Double Wear or Lancome Teint Idole – the reason being, that I have hyperpigmentation. Some of it is from sun damage in my teenage years and some from the hormone swings of three pregnancies. It seems it’s here to stay.

I don’t really want to wear a cake face every day, so with this in mind I decided to try the LA Girl Pro BB Cream and also the Za 2-way Foundation Powder, in an effort to find something a little lighter in coverage for weekend wear.

Some BB Creams I have tried in the past have been very watery and didn’t supply much coverage at all. The best I’ve tried so far for coverage and colour match has been the Chi Chi BB Cream. However, it didn’t really last a whole day on me.

LA Girl is a brand that I’ve really been enjoying lately. Their BB Cream doesn’t have SPF like most other BB Creams, however this wasn’t an issue for me as I use a facial moisturiser with SPF already. The shade I selected was Medium.

I found the texture of this to be slightly thicker than expected, which ended up being a bonus because it then supplied a surprisingly good level of coverage. It also allowed for a very smooth consistency for application. In this instance I used a Real Techniques Buffing Brush to apply to my face.

In the pics below, you can see my face without any makeup. Hopefully you can see how much hyperpigmentation I have (and my real eyebrows lol). On the right hand side you will see one layer of application of the BB Cream.

As you can see, it doesn’t fully cover my hyperpigmentation, but still gave a good base coverage. I did not use any concealer here.

2015-10-17 13.19.13After applying the BB Cream, I set it all using the Za 2-way Foundation. It is a powder that can be applied with a brush as I did, or you can wet the sponge supplied and apply this way.

I chose to use this as a pigmented setting powder, as recommended by the MUA from the Love Makeup store.

She was right to recommend this to me. It’s amazing. It’s very finely milled and when applied, does not settle into fine lines at all. It allows for a very smooth and natural looking face. The colour I am using is shade 23 (note I am currently NC40 in MAC foundations).

I used the Elf Complexion Brush to apply which was perfect to apply enough colour and coverage without it being cakey. It also gave my BB Cream an extra bit of oomph for coverage.

I finished it all with a spritz of MAC Fix+.

In the pic below I have applied my eye makeup and lip gloss.

I’ve now worn this combo a number of times. I’ve found that I like to wear concealer before applying the BB Cream, just to add a little more coverage to my hyperpigmentation.

Verdict: I really enjoy both of these products. The BB Cream is great for the weekends and feels very natural, but giving just enough coverage (in partnership with a light layer of concealer under my eyes and on my main hyperpigmentation spots). It also lasts all day which is a big bonus for me. The Za foundation powder is amazing. It’s now a holy grail product. I use it only as a seting powder and it works on whatever foundation I use.

If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend.
