Review: Plantae Skincare

A proudly New Zealand company, Plantae is a fully organic skincare range that boasts the BioGrow Certified logo on all of their packaging. This means that all of their products contain a minimum of 95% certified organic ingredients.

It was founded in Nelson by Carol Priest who is well known for her Carol Priest organic skincare line. Carol’s background in pharmaceutical compounding and 26 years of experience in producing natural skincare helped to springboard the launch of Plantae.

Plantae features products in three main ranges:

  1. Lush Leaves – for oily to blemished skin
  2. Flower Power – for normal to combination skin
  3. Berry Bliss – for dry to damaged skin

I was lucky enough to be sent some products to review on my blog. After much deliberation I selected the products below, mainly because the recent season change had impacted on my skin and on the skin of many people I spoke to. For me, the change from winter to spring meant that my skin was very dehydrated and I needed a boost of moisure.

Just to give you some context, my skin is normal to combination. In winter it leans to being more dry with an oily t-zone, while in summer it’s normal to oily.

I have tried these products daily for over two weeks now in order to fully review them for you here.

Rose Hip Fruit & Seed Serum – 30g (from the Berry Bliss Range)

2015-11-14 13.17.48-1

What is says: A concentrated facial serum with organic supercritical extracts from the whole rose hip berry, with damak rose otto oil to improve texture, tone and luminosity for lucent glowing skin.

I found this product to be pretty amazing. This is one of those items that once you try it, it’s very hard to live without. A beautiful rich consistency, it almost melts into your skin and immediately you can feel your skin almost drinking it in. I found that my skin felt plumper after a few days of use – and that’s amazing.

I found that it’s best to apply once a day, in the evenings before bed – you will love your skin in the morning let me tell you. However, if I felt my skin was feeling particularly parched, I would apply in the mornings too and let it settle in before continuing with my morning skincare routine.

If you’re interested in trying this brand and only want to try one thing – this is it.

Vanilla Bean Day Cream – 50g (from the Flower Power Range)

2015-11-14 13.15.42-1

What it say: A supreme cream full of skin loving phytonutrients enriched with vanilla bean, jasmine, camelia and myrrh with vitalising grape seed extract and shea nut for silky smooth supple skin.

This is a rich, beautifully vanilla scented day cream. What I really liked about this was that it was remarkably lightweight for such a power packed moisturiser. It was smooth and easy to apply, especially over the serum oil. I wore this mostly during the day, but once or twice I wore it at night time too for a lighter weight night cream. Because it doesn’t have SPF in it you’re able to wear it at night with no problem at all. On the flip side, if you are wearing during the day you will have to add SPF.

This is a very light nice day cream that I would highly recommend, especially as we move to summer.

Avocado Pear Eye Contour Cream – 15g (from the Berry Bliss Range)

2015-11-14 13.14.25-1

What it says: A light, nutrient filled cream-gel to diminish the appearance of find lines and wrinkles. Contains a unique blend of cold pressed NZ grown avocado pear and borage seed oils, with polyphenol dense blackcurrant leaf and pine bark complex to condition and protect delicate skin.

What surprised me about this product was how lightweight it was. I guess I’ve been brought up with the mentality that eye creams are usually heavier than other creams. I should know. I bought my first eye cream when I was 12 and that was a loooooong time ago. I have tried a couple of other eye creams that are lightweight, but have been very unimpressed with them, often finding them no better (or even worse) than a standard moisturiser.

This product has opened my eyes. Yes it’s lightweight, but it does the job and does it well. It is moisturising and feels so nice applying to the delicate skin around my eyes. I think because of it’s texture it absorbs quickly, especially applied over the serum, and feels amazing. And also because its so lightweight, I can apply in the mornings before my makeup application. I found that my concealer applied so smoothly over this cream and seemed to blend in so much more seamlessley. Then, when I applied foundation (yes I’m one of those gals that applies concealer first), it all blends in to have the most natural smooth skinlike look.

My Verdict

If you can’t tell already, I’m a fangirl for this brand. I’m so impressed with these products and I can say that they have made a difference to my skin over the last few weeks. I’ve already been talking with people about how good they are and urging them to try.

The fact that these products are organic, naturally sourced and cruelty free makes me feel so good about using them and recommending the Plantae brand.

Added to this I’m  so proud of this Kiwi company! How wonderful is it that our country is producing such high quality products and taking them to the world.

Now I’m going to try some of the other products in their range. The Pacific Blue Cream Cleanser looks amazing as does the Orange Blossom Spritzer (you know how much I love face sprays!), and the Sea Buckthorm Berry Night Cream – so much to choose from.

Have a look at the Plantae website here to see their whole range and if you’re interested in finding out where to buy some, click here for a list of their stockists.

Note: although these products were sent to me, my opinions and reviews are 100% honest.
