Review: Empties

I’ve accumulated a few empties over the last few months – mainly skincare as you can see.

Loreal Revitalift Moisturiser, Advanced UVA Protection SPF30 / Loreal Revitalift Night Cream

I actually tried the night cream first, having received it in a Black Box. I found the consistency very nice and in the morning my skin was noticeably smoother and hydrated. On the back of this I decided to try the day cream. Because of my hyperpigmentation I needed something with a higher SPF and this looked to suit perfectly. It did. It was smooth and creamy, with a lovely fragrance. It provided enough moisturiser during the day without turning into an oil slick.

Loreal Luminosity Code Serum

This was on special at my local discount makeup store so I decided to give it a go. While I don’t think it added any luminosity to my skin, it was a very nice, smooth serum that worked especially well with the other Loreal products above.

Maybelline Eye & Lip Makeup Remover

I picked this up because I’d run out of my Loreal one (hmmm I’m sensing a theme here). I was pleasantly surprised. It does a good job of removing my mascara and eyeshadow. I still use my coconut cream to remove all of the reside 100%, but I have to do that with all eye make up removers. I’ve already repurchased this one!

SUKIN Hydrating Mist Toner

I’m super addicated to face mists and am seriously considering dedicating a blog post to face mists along. This SUKIN one was lovely. A really nice, refreshing fragrance and it’s all natural and cruelty free. SUKIN is a lovely brand and one of the nicest things about them is that they are very affordable! If you haven’t tried this one, I highly recommend it.

Collection Does it All 5 in 1 Mascara

Available at local Countdown stores this brand is available everywhere in New Zealand now. I bought this on a Shaanxo Youtube recommendation and had high expectations. Right off the bat, the packaging broke. The wand dislodged from the top. I should have returned it for another, but I was a little annoyed and couldn’t be bothered returning it. As for the mascara itself. It’s OK. It’s not amazing. It’s a basic mascara, so if you need a basic one and you’re in a rush, give this a go. I won’t be repurchasing this particular one from Collection, but I still like other items from this brand.

MAC Fix Plus

I bought the smaller travel sized version of this one. It’s supposed to be for travel, but to be honest, I think the top of the bottle is a bit flimsy and I didn’t want to risk it spilling in my bag. If you have one of those bags that everything stands up and never falls down, you may be OK. Having said that, Fix Plus is awesome. I’ve already repurchased the full-sized bottle. It’s the perfect hydrating spray that finishes off your makeup application process. If you have applied a bit much cake face, then this will calm down the cakiness. It’s also lovely to apply throughout the day to add a little spritz of hydration without messing up your makeup.

OLAY Regnerist Eye Cream

This came in a pack that included a serum for eyelashes. The serum didn’t work for me (my eyelashes need a miracle), but the eye cream was really nice. It’s smooth and hydrating and I applied both at night and in the morning before applying makeup.

Smashbox Eye Primer

This is one serious eye primer. It is a skin colour and is great to cancel out any eyelid discolouration. However, it is pretty thick and if you don’t watch it, you can get crepey lizard eye with this. I enjoyed it, but am happy to try some other eye primers in my makeup journey 😉

MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NC25

This concealer is full coverage and I mean FULL coverage. Application is smooth and it blends easily. However, it creases. Aside from that, it’s too light for me. In the end I used it as a brow bone highlight. I now have the mineralised concealer that I like much better.

Shea Body Butter

I bought this no-name branded body butter at a discount with purchase at Postie Plus. You know when you’re at the counter and they ask ‘would you like this for only $5?’. Well I fell for it. I love body butters in a big way. This was was pretty average. The smell was nice, but the consistency wasn’t creamy as I like. I used it all, but won’t be repurchasing.

Clinique Deep Comfort Lotion Sample

I find the Clinique brand pretty hit and miss. This one was a miss. As I said before I love body butters. Well I like lotions too. I like lotions that apply smoothly and then hydrate my skin through the day. With this I felt like I had to reapply. It may work for you if you don’t have naturally dry skin, so feel free to give it a go.

The Body Shop Shea Shower Cream

This product is amazing! So delicious and creamy and the smell is divine. This is my second bottle (after my daugher christened our deck with my first bottle) and I’m ready to repurchase. I can’t say enough about this product. It’s just so lovely, creamy and rich.

Weleda Rose Water Makeup Remover Lotion

The Weleda brand is an all natural, naturopathic brand. I’ve used quite a few products from their range and they’re all really good. Some products can smell a little funky though. This was a very nice lotion that wasn’t overly perfumed. It was effective in removing makeup and left my skin feeling nice and clean. I’d recommend this, although I won’t be repurchasing as I’ve found I prefer cleansing creams and coconut oil.

Well, that’s it! How epic! If you’ve reached the end of this, good on you and thanks so much!

xx
